Does filming gets you down?

I remember once seeing Urban Legends II or something where this guy created what could have been a kick ass movie, but it was swapped so he committed suicide, well, thats what the main characters thought.

I'm at a stage in filming when it's really getting me down. I just wondered if you guys ever get stressed out.

As you know, i'm filming Static Fear, and being a feature length film, it requires being shot over a period of time. WE have'nt gotten off to a great start. A couple of location evictions, wasting time, and especially the main character never around to do filming.

We could just ditch him you say, but no, there's no one else willing to play the part. He's usually committed to helping but recently he's just had "work" or "girlfriend" commitments etc.

Do you think a contract would be a good idea?

So, as the director, i've been up a lot lately, i've been getting very stressed and upset about it all. Maybe i'm just flipping my lid or making a big deal of something that isn't really such a big deal. I don't know.

Is this me, or are there other people that find filming doesn't just have a happy side?

No matter how well prepared it is, I always find that filming never goes your way and generally sucks. I hate it. You might enjoy it from a social standpoint but it seems like you never get the footage you want.

At the moment, it's alright since we're doing a mock TV show on video, so we just switch on the multiple cameras, leave them running and mess about, since there's no cost and it's all a bit of fun.

When there's a budget, a script, a STORY, it's a different matter.

Editing is so much more fun, if the footage is good.

The only part of filmmaking that doesn't cause me break things and cuss my head out is watching the final draft of my film.
Then I usually just laugh. Filmmaking almost never goes the way you want it to.

I feel you, i did a shoot this last weekend one some green screen. I did all the planning myself and got all the actors together on a whim, so I was the only one with any idea of how this was going to look. And as you can imagin it was very frustrating trying to explain this to the actors and keep a clear head so i could get all the shots i needed. But that failed and I have to do some reshots within the next week to meet my deadline which is next wednesday. So i am a little frustrated. And still being a teenager and living at home, I also have got my mom on my back trying to make me get a job and do something besides make movies. So i feel the furstration and the pressure. But the vision of what this film will look like keeps me going.

I love every moment of it, yes we have a few down points on set, but where and when else in the world do you get to shout things aty people like
"Your meant to run, thats why you are called a runner ?"

or get to sit around with 30 people all trying ot keep warm by the fire after a 18 hour shoot and recite life of brian phrases

or even blow up your much prized possesion of a Cap in the microwave after a vein attempt of trying to get dry.

plus it always amazes me what you can tell me to do and get away with

Maybe the problem is not with the filmmaking but with yourslef and how you deal with stress, leanr how to chill and enjoy the ride

I never said I can't chill etc, I think i'm suffering more with pre-production elements, whereas you're talking about production elements.

Yes, everyone loves production, even I do.

It's GETTING to that stage which can bug me.

Nothing worth doing is easy. except wanking. and even that requires a mild effort.
go on holiday if you are feeling down, and forgewt about your film for a while. it's not as if you have a deadline...is it?

I'm a little down myself. I have my shoot all done and I have edited most of it but for some reason, the scenes don't flow right. Something's missing and I'm not sure what. That's why I have the post-production blues. But perhaps the audience won't realize it and it will turn out great. Or mabye not.
